From Moral Crisis to Moral Injustice: How IDF Critics Harm the Israeli Public

War is a complex state that brings with it many harsh sights, yet at the foundation of things, even wars, despite sometimes being particularly difficult, especially when they take place in an urban environment, are a human event whose source is conflict.

Recently there has been a very lively discourse about the conduct of the IDF in the combat arenas in which Israel now finds itself at war: Gaza, Lebanon, Judea and Samaria. A claim is taking shape that after more than two years of fighting, IDF soldiers are in a moral crisis. Some even go further and point to an outright breakdown in matters of morality and discipline. These claims are based on a number of exceptional incidents that have occurred in the IDF in recent months in light of the fighting in urban spaces. These cases were captured on camera and include examples such as the defacement of a statue of Jesus in the town of ‘Itron in Lebanon, the rude expulsion of a foreign media crew from an IDF area of operations in the Jordan Valley sector, and a few more examples.
