Overview
On February 28, 2026, at approximately 08:00 Israel time, the Israeli and US Air Forces launched a coordinated preemptive strike against targets in Tehran and across Iran.
The strikes eliminated supreme leader Ali Khamenei along with 40 top Iranian officials. Among them are the Defense minister, Aziz Nazirzadeh, Abdolrahim Mousavi, who served as chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, Mohammad Pakpour who served as IRGC chief.
President Donald Trump, called Iran a “criminal regime” that for 47 years has spread terror, rebuilt nuclear capabilities, and developed long-range missile systems capable of threatening Europe, US bases in the region, and eventually the United States itself.
Hundreds of targets were struck nationwide, including ballistic missile launchers, air defense systems such as an advanced SA-65 battery in Kermanshah, and facilities linked to the nuclear and military apparatus.
Reports claim the elimination of senior regime figures, including high-ranking IRGC commanders and senior officials.
Between 10:00 and 18:00 on February 28, nine waves of missile and drone alerts were triggered across Israel, with confirmed impacts and casualties.
Iran launched broader regional barrages affecting Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE, with reported casualties in Gulf states.
